Modern Tilt & Turn Windows
” All the top UK consumer protection associations, such as ‘Which’ often advise homeowners to get & compare at least 3 quotations from different companies before considering making their home improvements. we can help you achieve this.
From any angle, uPVC Tilt & Turn windows are unique, functional and stylish. Extending their versatility by being able to function as both door and window.
The potential uses for tilt and turn windows are numerous and being able to open tilt & turn windows in more than a few different fashions is not only ingenious, but also practical.
The variable inward opening panes make cleaning an easy task, especially where fitted to higher floors, brings added low draught ventilation to the home.
it’s also less inviting to intruders than leaving a side hinged window wide open.
Tilt & Turn Window Features
- Energy efficient “solar” glass
- Multi-point locks for improved security
- Toughened safety glass where required
- Bottom hinged inward tilting frames for ventilation
- Side Hinged, fully opening window frames (inward)
- “Wood grain” finishes
- Available in a range of colours
- Low Maintenance (no painting !)
- Steel reinforced frames prevent warping
For installations where larger frames and panes are being used, such as if you want to use it as a patio door, the built in movement limiters for the tilt function are standard fittings, so there is no danger of the window falling fully inwards when tilted.
Energy Efficient Glass
There are new types of sealed glazed units on the market which can increase the thermal insulation properties and influence the amount of heat that escapes from your house; known as low emissivity or “low-e glass”.
the surface of the unit has a metal oxide coating which impacts on the glass’ ability to reflect solar radiation.
Energy efficient glass can also control the amount of light that the window allows to penetrate into your property by its ability to differentiate between short and long wave radiation.
It’s claimed by major glass manufacturers that over the lifetime of the window savings due to reduced heat loss can add up to thousands of pounds simply by using energy efficient designs.
Safety & Security
A lesser highlighted function in terms of safety is that, because the tilt & turn window can fully open inwards giving a very clear opening, they are excellent to use in places where an emergency exit point is required.
For safety, toughened glass meeting British Standard BS6206 should be used in high risk areas, this glass is about 5 or 6 times stronger than the average pane of glass and in the event it breaks it reduces to very small pieces – similar to the effect you may have seen on car windscreens in the past.
As you would expect, for security reasons, robust and efficient locking systems are installed as standard and high security locks built into the frames keep you safe from burglars or otherwise uninvited guests, multi-point locks are standards and can include “hook & Mushroom” cams, 5 lever and mortise locks and full length hinges.
